Project details
Name / Acronym:GODFIT-2
Full name:GOME Direct Fitting – Phase B
Description:The main general objective of this project is to set up a new baseline for high precision total column ozone retrieval using nadir UV backscatter measurements from space, with direct application to the GOME instrument on board of ERS-2. The project is a follow up of the GODFIT Phase A project where a first version of the direct-fitting algorithm was developed and validated. Another major achievement of GODFIT Phase A was the development of the so-called GDOAS algorithm, which was selected by ESA in 2004 for implementation in the GOME operational ground segment (leading to version 4.0 of the GOME Data Processor - GDP), and later on in the SCIAMACHY operational processing system at DLR. For GODFIT Phase B, the emphasis is on investigating further the issue of total ozone accuracy under extreme conditions of ozone columns and solar zenith angles in polar regions. The project is linked to the SAUNA campaign (see separate fiche) as well as to the ESA CHEOPS project (see fiche). There is also a feedback to the EUM GOME-2 tools project.
