Climate change is unquestionably one of the biggest environmental challenges facing humanity today.

Its significance has been acknowledged by the latest reports from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).

 

Therefore, it is essential that measures should be taken to monitor these changes, study their causes and mitigate their effects.

Observations carried out from the ground as well as from space provide unique data for the study of climate change.

Coordinated programmes are vital for the distribution of these observations on an international scale.

 

The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB) is particularly interested in atmosphere related phenomena and plays an essential role in:
