Operations Engineer

The Belgian User Support and Operations Centre (B.USOC), hosted by the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, is looking for a new member for the team of B.USOC operations engineers in the framework of operating scientific experiments onboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The B.USOC is currently responsible for several payloads on board the ISS, including the FSL rack (Fluid Science Laboratory) and ASIM platform (Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor). The work is performed in close cooperation with several centers of the European Space Agency (ESA).

Candidate profile:

  • Master’s degree in engineering (civil or industrial) or a scientific degree at university level or post-graduate level.
  • If the degree was obtained in another country than Belgium, a request for equivalence should have been introduced.
  • Excellent English (speaking and writing).

Internship “Development of a Mobile-DOAS Viewer”

The Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy is looking for a student to develop a server with webinterface for near real-time map visualization of mobileDOAS measurements of trace gas concentrations such as NO2. This could be done in the framework of a thesis or internship.

The BIRA-IASB Aeromobil is a mobile remote sensing instrument, developed to measure trace gas concentrations which are strongly linked to air quality/pollution.

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor or Master study – ICT option
  • A general interest in atmospheric chemistry/physics, air quality and/or geoscience is an asset
