Aeronomy services

Recognised for its work in space physics and in the physics and chemistry of atmospheres, the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB) transforms research into applications and services that are made available to public authorities, industry, scientists and the general public.

Some of these services are operational, meaning that they must satisfy constraints of continuity and availability, while others consist chiefly of developing innovative software solutions. What they all have in common is a high technological content and great attention is paid to the needs of the users.

These services are developed in close collaboration with our scientists and engineers, who in this way see their research activities and their expertise put to good use. They focus principally on examining and forecasting the composition of the atmosphere, solar radiation and the space environment.

The services of the Scientific Services Division (BIRA-IASB organisation chart) integrate perfectly into the European COPERNICUS, ISS (International Space Station) and SSA (Space Situational Awareness) programmes.
