European Space Weather and Space Climate Association

In 2022 the European Space Weather and Space Climate Association (E-SWAN) was established in Belgium as a result of a community effort to unite forces of various entities in order to sustain and further develop activities of the space weather and space climate communities.

The BIRA-IASB Space weather group is among the founders of E-SWAN. The group has been part of the Executive Board, is chairing the Council and the Education and Outreach Committee, is contributing to many committees and working groups, and provides technical support.

The E-SWAN network

The European Space Weather and Space Climate Association (E‑SWAN) is an international non‑profit association established in Belgium in 2022. The mission of E‑SWAN is to unite, sustain, and develop Space Weather and Space Climate activities in Europe.

E‑SWAN hosts several committees, including

  • the European Space Weather Week Program Committee,
  • the Publication Committee (responsible for the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate),
  • the Awards Committee (which oversees the International Space Weather and Space Climate Medals), and
  • the Education and Outreach Committee.

E-SWAN also hosts several working groups on various topics such as ecological sustainability of space weather activities, space weather policies and plans, and operational activities.

Aside from being one of the founders, the BIRA-IASB Space weather group has been part of the Executive Board, taking up active roles as being the chair of the Council and the Education and Outreach Committee, contributing to many committees and working groups and providing technical support.

The BIRA‑IASB IT team is hosting E‑SWAN’s website, mail, and cloud service.
