Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Belgian BIRA-IASB and South Korean NIER
2025-07-02
On 20 June, a delegation from South Korea came to the Institute to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BIRA-IASB and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), in the framework of the Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) satellite mission:
- Mrs. Ji-Won Seong, Mr. Hyunkee Hong, and Mrs. Sihuyun Nam from NIER
- Mrs. Inkyu Shin, Environmental Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Belgium

This was a very important day for BIRA-IASB and proof of the recognition of the expertise of our scientists at the international level. It marks an important step forward in data sharing, calibration and validation, and joint research using space-based observations. Through this MoU, we hope to deepen our collaboration in satellite-based monitoring, data exchange, and joint research on air quality and climate.
